Biblical Context
The psalmist declares the LORD is his source of strength and protection; trusting in God brings help, filling the heart with joy that leads to praise.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider the LORD as the I AM within, not a distant gentleman but the very power of your own awareness. Strength and shield are states of consciousness you awaken to, when you refuse to argue with lack and align with the truth that you are supported by the infinite I AM. The heart that trusts in this inner reality becomes receptive to help, for help is the natural fruit of faith in the inner principle that sustains you. When trust is established, your consciousness rejoices; the inner mood becomes song, and that song is the outward sign of your claim fulfilled. You do not beg for protection—you assume it as your present fact. The shield is your disciplined attention, guarding thought from fear until the external scene conforms to the inner peace you have already asserted. Joy is not sentimental; it is the felt result of living in the awareness that you are loved, guided, and supplied by the I AM you know as God within. So stand in that state, and watch the world echo your certainty, as if the voice of praise were the natural expression of your realized state.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume the inner status: 'The I AM within is my strength and shield; my heart trusts and I am helped.' Feel this as present reality, then let joy rise and softly sing a quiet praise.
