Biblical Context
The psalmist expresses love for the place where God’s honor dwells and asks to be kept away from those who practice mischief. It underscores choosing inner holiness and separation from corrupt influences.
Neville's Inner Vision
In this Psalm the sanctuary is not a temple of brick but a state of consciousness—the I AM where God’s honor is felt, not merely spoken. To love this habitation is to prefer the order and reverence of an awakened mind. “Gather not my soul with sinners” becomes a directive to disidentify from lower, restless states—the mischief of fear, greed, and compromise—so that your identity remains anchored in the Presence. Your right hand is not the weapon of bribery but an instrument of integrity you consciously lift toward truth. When you enter the inner sanctuary by imagination, you are not escaping the world, you are reforming your relation to it from within. Imagination is the act that turns this revelation into real experience: you begin to dwell as the Presence, not as the restless seeker. The Presence becomes your continuous state, and your life aligns with that holy reality, transforming what you call “yours” into what you already are in God.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and assume the feeling: I am dwelling in the sanctuary of God’s Presence. Revise any sense of association with lower desires by affirming, I am already aligned with integrity and honor in this moment.
