Biblical Context
Psalm 2:5-9 presents God placing his king on Zion and issuing a decree. It portrays the king’s authority to receive and discipline life, signaling the inner power of consciousness to shape outward reality.
Neville's Inner Vision
Its outer drama is really about your inner drama. The king on Zion is the I AM you become when you fix your attention on a new state of consciousness. The phrase Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee marks the moment you identify with a definite, living self. The command Ask of me invites you to request from that state, not from the old conditions of lack. The heathen and the ends of the earth are the scattered conditions of life that fall under your sovereignty once you accept the new ruler within. To break them with a rod of iron is the discipline of your thoughts and feelings, determined to hold to the new king even when old doubts attempt to return. The wrath and vexation are the resistance of the former self dissolving as you establish the throne on your holy hill. Your task is to dwell in the feeling of the wish fulfilled, and let the world echo your inner decree. In this sense, Psalms 2:5-9 becomes a manual for turning awareness into reality by steadfast assumption.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Close your eyes and vividly assume the king seated on Zion within you; rest in the feeling of I AM as sovereign, and declare the decree until your outer circumstances begin to realign.
