Biblical Context
The passage describes nations raging and rulers plotting against the Lord and his anointed. It also says God laughs at their schemes and establishes a king on Zion.
Neville's Inner Vision
Thoughts: The 'heathen' are the restless thoughts that rage within; the 'kings of the earth' are the crowded beliefs that would bind me. The Lord and his anointed are the I AM and the divine idea seeking expression as my crowned self. When these inner voices unite against this truth, I witness a mental revolt—yet God sits in the heavens, and I hear his laughter as the release of pressure from false identifications. His derision is the moment when I refuse to fear the storm and return my attention to the inner fact of sovereignty. Then, 'Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion' becomes an inner declaration: I set my king upon Zion within, and I am the ruler of my inner landscape. The outer world may rage, but the inner kingdom is established. As I dwell there, the imagined bonds dissolve, and the true governance of consciousness emerges as present reality, swiftly transforming perception into form.
Practice This Now
Assume the end: I am the king seated on Zion within. Close your eyes, feel the throne of sovereignty rising in your chest, and silently declare, 'I am the Lord's anointed, and my inner kingdom is established.'
