Scripture Focus

6I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.
7Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.
Psalms 17:6-7

Biblical Context

The speaker calls on God, asking to be heard and for ear to listen. Those who trust in God's right hand are promised marvelous lovingkindness and protection from their adversaries.

Neville's Inner Vision

Here the Psalmist’s call to God is really a turn of attention toward the I AM within. When I declare, 'I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me,' I am naming the inner hearing of consciousness—the I AM that answers every sincere petition. The phrase 'incline thine ear' becomes the letting of my awareness listen to the thought I am choosing in imagination. The 'marvellous lovingkindness' is the mercy I grant myself as I trust the right hand—the active power of belief within me. To be saved by thy right hand means to be kept safe by the certainty that my trust in God, my present awareness, creates protection from the imagined opposition of fear. When I maintain this trust, I feel the adversaries dissolve into thoughts I can revise. The invitation is to rest in the assurance that my inner state is heard, corrected, and loved by the I AM, here and now.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and, in the present tense, say to yourself, 'I am heard; I am protected by the Right Hand of God within me.' Dwell in that feeling for a minute, revising any sense of lack into assurance.
