Biblical Context
Psalm 16:8-11 speaks of keeping the divine awareness before you, a stance that keeps you steady and joyful as life’s path is revealed in presence.
Neville's Inner Vision
To enter this scripture as Neville would, see the LORD not as a distant deity but as your I AM, the living awareness you carry. I have set the LORD always before me becomes I keep my divine awareness before my mind, and because this awareness stands at my right hand—the place of action and support—I shall not be moved by outward appearances. When my heart is glad and my glory rejoices, it is the body living in alignment with faith, resting in hopeful expectancy because consciousness remains unshaken. The line about not leaving my soul in hell dissolves into a realization: hell is a belief-state, not my true self; my awareness does not see corruption when I dwell in the presence of the I AM. The promise that thou wilt show me the path of life becomes the act of perceiving life as a continuous revelation in awareness; in thy presence there is fullness of joy, and at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Hence, the path is not a thing I go to, but a realization I inhabit here and now, a vivid inner state that governs every outward circumstance.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Assume the state of Presence now, feel the joy as a present fact, and imagine the path of life unfolding at your right hand. Do this until the sense of I AM there with you is vivid and real.
