Neville's Inner Vision
In this psalm the so-called enemies are not others but states of consciousness—fear, doubt, distraction. To deliver me from mine enemies is to withdraw attention from those troubling thoughts and flee unto the I AM within, where I realize I am safe in God. Teach me to do thy will becomes a declaration of alignment with the divine order rather than mere external compliance; the will of God is the inner law by which I move. Thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness is a call to imagine and enter a mental terrain characterized by integrity and clear direction, where impulses and conscience walk in harmony. Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name's sake invites the inner life to awaken, a vitality that radiates through thought, feeling, and action. Mercy cut off mine enemies and destroy all who afflict my soul points to dissolving false images and fearful stories by the conviction that I am the servant of the living I AM. I am thus reorganized by the truth that I serve divine order and unfoldment.
