Biblical Context
The psalmist asks to hear God's lovingkindness in the morning, trusts in Him, and seeks guidance on the path to walk; he lifts his soul to God. He likewise seeks deliverance and refuge from enemies by turning to God.
Neville's Inner Vision
To Neville Goddard, Psalm 143:8-9 is an invitation to awaken to the I AM within, not to petition an external power. The morning request to hear lovingkindness is a command to assume the mood of grace already present in your own consciousness. Trust becomes an inner stance, an unwavering assumption that you are aligned with the divine presence called God, the I AM. When you seek the way you should walk, you are recognizing that your path is formed by your state of consciousness—your inner alignment with truth creates every outward circumstance. The enemies in your life are projections of fear; fleeing to God means turning attention from threat toward the safe harbor of awareness that you are always held by the I AM. Treat this as a daily revision: dwell in the feeling that grace guides you, and that you already know the path because you are consciousness itself, perceiving through the eye that never sleeps.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: In the morning, close your eyes, and declare, "I am led by the I AM within; I now know the way I should walk." Feel the assurance rise as you imagine the path unfolding before you, and allow any fear to dissolve into calm confidence.
