Scripture Focus

3For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.
Psalms 143:3

Biblical Context

The verse describes an inner assault: the soul feels persecuted and pressed to the ground, and darkness is experienced as a long sleep. The feeling is of exile within consciousness, longing for a return to life.

Neville's Inner Vision

Consider that the 'enemy' is not a person but a state of consciousness that believes itself separate from the life-giving I AM. Persecution of the soul is the mind's habit of fixing on lack, fear, or failure until life feels struck to the ground. Darkness is not an objective condition, but a mental image you wear, a story you tell about your awareness. In truth, the I AM within you remains untouched, always awake, the origin of every true seeing. To reinterpret, practice the assumption that you now dwell in the realm of inner light by feeling your essential identity as God in expression. Let the present moment be your return: you are not exiled but simply displaced by a false impression, ready to fade when you impress a higher state. The moment you affirm 'I AM Life' and treat perception as a dream you can revise, the inner storm subsides and you awaken to vitality. This is the exile and the return—the shift from bondage to freedom within your own consciousness.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, take a slow breath, and repeat 'I AM Life' until awareness steadies. Then revise the scene by seeing darkness dissolve and a bright inner light fill the space, as you stand in the I AM unshaken.
