Biblical Context
Psalms 143:10-11 asks to be taught to do God's will, acknowledges God as the source, and seeks guidance by the Spirit to walk in righteousness, while requesting quickening to deliver from trouble.
Neville's Inner Vision
To 'teach me to do thy will' is not a petition to a distant lord but a turning of the mind to the inner will that you already are. When you say 'thou art my God,' you acknowledge that the I AM within is the source and sovereign author of your life. 'Thy spirit is good' declares the animating power in you as benevolent, not punitive. 'Lead me into the land of uprightness' becomes a declaration of living in a state of harmony—where thought, feeling, and action align with legality of rightness in consciousness. 'Quicken me, O LORD' is the invitation to wake from the sleep of fear by the quickening presence of the name—the awareness that you are that divine life. 'For thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble' speaks of the release that comes when you stand in this awareness, knowing troubles dissolve as appearances in the light of your true self. The practice is to assume you already dwell in this upright state, to feel the relief, and to let the imagination do the rest: the world bows to the reality of your awakened consciousness.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and silently affirm 'I will the will of God in me' as your present experience; feel 'I AM' as the steady, benevolent director of every thought and choice. Then imagine a path unfolding into a land of uprightness and step into that felt state for a few breaths, letting the sense of being guided dissolve any trouble.
