Psalms 141:3-9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus

3Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
4Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.
5Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.
6When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.
7Our bones are scattered at the grave's mouth, as when one cutteth and cleaveth wood upon the earth.
8But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.
9Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity.
Psalms 141:3-9

Biblical Context

The Psalm asks for inner vigilance: watch what you say, keep pure intention, receive correction, and trust the Lord while avoiding snares.

Neville's Inner Vision

To the reader who dwells in the I AM, Psalm 141 becomes a practical discipline of inner surveillance. Set your awareness as a gatekeeper at the mouth of your mind, and let the door of your lips be kept by the I AM that you are. Do not incline your heart to any evil thing by entertaining troubling thoughts or imaginations of others' schemes; see dainties as mere appetite that fades in the light of your true state. When the righteous rebuke you, receive it as an excellent oil poured on the head—refining your sense of self without breaking your head's calm. Your prayer then remains present even in calamities, for it is a state of consciousness never disturbed by external conditions. Let your words be sweet to hear, and trust that your inner fortress protects you when judges fall in stony places. Your bones, though spoken of as mortality, are no threat to the I AM, for you are held by God. Keep your eyes on the Lord, and keep your soul from destitution by the vivid practice of revision and feel-it-real faith.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Sit in quiet; imagine a golden gate at the mouth of your lips and, with each breath, declare, 'I am the custodian of my words.' Revise a recent slipping thought into a statement of trust in the I AM.
