Psalm 140:1-4 asks for protection from an evil and violent foe, describing those who scheme and speak harm, and seeking to be kept safe from their influence.
Neville's Inner Vision
To the seeker, Psalm 140 is not a distant plea to a far-off power but a description of your inner state. The “evil man” and the “violent man” symbolize fear and aggression within consciousness, while their mischief and war are inner movements of thought. The serpent-like tongue and poison under lips are the automatic self-talk of doubt—voices trying to override your peace. Selah invites a pause, a deliberate shift into the steady knowing of the I AM, the unconditioned awareness that preserves you. Keep me from the hands of the wicked becomes a declaration that you are safeguarded by the intrinsic order of divinity within you. When you recognize that you are the I AM imagining your world, external threats fade into the background, because you remain the consciousness that animates reality. Your deliverance is therefore the outcome of a new inner posture: you are already protected by divine life, and your surroundings will reflect this inner truth as you dwell in it. Practice turning fear into a reaffirmation of your divine identity.
Practice This Now
Assume the state: I am kept by the I AM. Imagine a radiant shield surrounding you and feel your path secure despite any outward noise.
