Biblical Context
Verse 14:6 exposes the mockery of the poor's counsel and declares that the LORD is the poor man's refuge. It points to the inner security found in God, not in social status.
Neville's Inner Vision
Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge: this is a truth of inner life in action. The poor represent a state of consciousness that is humble, vulnerable, and open to the Presence. The I AM within is not offended by that vulnerability; it is the refuge itself. When you hear the sneer of the outer world, turn inward and acknowledge that the Lord is the sanctuary of your inner state. In Neville terms, true security arises when you identify with the consciousness that knows itself as God, not with circumstances. Persist in the feeling that you are protected by the I AM here and now, and notice how inner movements shift—from fear and judgment to quiet dignity and compassionate response. The presence of God becomes tangible as you treat imagination as reality: what you assume about yourself and your world, you gradually revitalize. The poor’s counsel thus ceases to be undervalued and becomes a keyword for the living truth that mercy and justice begin within, when you dwell in the refuge of God and allow that awareness to govern your experience.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Sit quietly, imagine the poor counsel as a gentle inner message, and revise it by affirming I am the refuge of the I AM here and now.
