Always Here: The Inner Presence

Psalms 139:7-8 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 139 in context

Scripture Focus

7Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
Psalms 139:7-8

Biblical Context

The psalm declares that God’s Spirit fills every place; there is no location or ascent where you can escape the divine presence.

Neville's Inner Vision

I do not seek the Divine in distant skies; the Spirit is already at the center of my being. Psalms 139:7-8 teaches that there is no edge of heaven nor bed of hell where the I AM is not present, because God is awareness and awareness is my own I AM now. Places are only moods I inhabit in imagination; to 'ascend' or 'descend' is to shift inner state. The question 'Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?' has the answer: none; I am always held by the One I call God. In this view, Providence and guidance are formed from my inner alignment with the truth that I am always seen and held by the divine eye. Fear of separation dissolves as I recognize that all experiences are inner movements of consciousness, not external geography. By claiming the I AM as my constant, I accept that I am everywhere the embodiment of divine presence, whether I feel serene or in 'hell'—for hell is but a thought I have created, and God remains.

Practice This Now

Practice: close your eyes, breathe, and assume the feeling of being in the presence of God now. Stay with that inner state for a minute, feeling the I AM saturate your entire being.
