Biblical Context
Psalm 139:1-6 states that God has searched and known the speaker, surrounding every path and thought. It invites us to awaken to the inner, all-knowing awareness that never leaves us.
Neville's Inner Vision
Scripture here says there is a God who searches me and knows me, not as a distant ruler, but as the I AM within my own consciousness. The 'downsitting and uprising' and 'thought afar off' are not mysteries to be solved outside, but movements of my own inner state. When I inhabit this truth, I find that every path I tread, every resting and rising, is already known to the awareness that I am. The psalmist says there is not a word in my tongue that is unknown to God; this is the declaration that my speaking is known to my own true self, the field of my being. You may feel beset behind and before, yet that is simply the rhythm of consciousness encircling itself in attention. Such knowledge—the knowing that I am seen and held by the I AM—this knowledge is too wonderful, too high, to reach with the old graspings of lack or separation. In this light, God is not external judgment but the warmth of the mind that knows itself completely; I can revise any sense of distance by dwelling as the aware I AM.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and affirm: I am the I AM that searches my heart; all thoughts and paths are known within me. Feel the warmth of this awareness enfolding your day as you move and rest.
