Biblical Context
Psalm 136:13–14 speaks of God dividing the Red Sea so Israel could pass through, a symbol of divine deliverance. The refrain 'for his mercy endureth for ever' marks mercy as the sustaining power behind every crossing.
Neville's Inner Vision
Notice that the Red Sea is not a historical barrier but the sea within your own consciousness. When the scripture says He divided the sea, it is your inner state being parted by mercy. The people Israel are the states of consciousness in you that pass through the midst of difficulty to the other side, not by force of external power but by awakening to the truth that you are the I AM. The mercy, eternally enduring, is the atmosphere of your awareness, the feeling that allows the sea to yield. By treating the sea as a fixed barrier, you remain stranded; by assuming the right state of consciousness, you witness the sea disappear and you pass through. Your imagination is the instrument God uses to effect deliverance; by imagining a new landscape within, you revoke old limitations and enter into liberation. Begin with one clear assumption: I AM divides the sea in me now, and I pass through to my freedom. Keep your attention on the feeling that you are already delivered; repetition will make the crossing real in your experience.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit quietly, breathe, and assume, with full feeling, I AM divides the sea in me now, and I pass through to my freedom. Visualize the waters parting and feel the freedom already present.
