Psalms 135:17 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus

17They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths.
Psalms 135:17

Biblical Context

The verse presents idols as having ears yet not hearing, and mouths without breath, a stark image of lifeless worship. It warns against worship that is outward without inner listening.

Neville's Inner Vision

In the inner economy of your consciousness, the verse speaks of states that seem to hear yet remain deaf to the living truth of God within. An idol is not a stone or image here, but a fixed belief that blocks the inner ear and freezes the breath of life—an attitude of worship that looks outward while refusing to listen to the I AM that you truly are. When you catch yourself saying you hear nothing or that life has no breath, you are echoing a form of idolatry that denies your radiant, imaginative reality. But you can reverse the scene by assuming the I AM is hearing the truth right now, and that the breath of life flows from your inner alignment with Divine consciousness. By dwelling in that feeling—being listened to, guided, breathed by the Source—you dispel the deafness of the idol and awaken to the living reality you truly are. This is not about changing external forms; it is a conversion of inner state from death to living awareness through imagination.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume, 'I hear the I AM within me now.' Feel the breath of life returning to your inner sanctuary as you listen to the still, guiding voice.
