Psalms 124:2-3 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 124 in context

Scripture Focus

2If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:
3Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:
Psalms 124:2-3

Biblical Context

Without God's protection, adversaries would swallow us up. The psalm asserts that God's presence keeps us safe and delivers us from wrath.

Neville's Inner Vision

To translate this into Neville’s psychology, the 'LORD' is the I AM awareness that stands as your inner ally. When you feel attacked by 'men' or by outer conditions, you are not at the mercy of circumstance; you have merely forgotten the fact that God is on your side in the theater of your mind. The verse teaches that the moment you entertain the reality of that indwelling Presence, the imagined 'wrath' of others cannot swallow you nor bite into your being. The scenes of danger disappear as you dwell in the awareness that you are always attended by Providence and guided by mercy. The state of mind becomes the gate through which salvation travels; to awaken is to assume the feeling of the Lord's protective companionship now. Imagination is the instrument by which you revise reality: you state, 'The I AM is on my side; therefore I am shielded, guided, and redeemed.'

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, repeat 'The LORD is on my side now,' and imagine a radiant, invisible shield surrounding you as you breathe in the feeling of safety; stay there for a minute and let that state persist.
