5The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
Psalms 121:3-5

Biblical Context

God watches over you, keeping your steps steady and never sleeping; He is the shade and protection you carry at your right hand.

Neville's Inner Vision

Think of the psalmist's words not as external watchers but as a description of your inner state. The 'LORD is thy keeper' is the recognition that consciousness itself is the keeper: a lucent I AM that neither tires nor sleeps, always alert to your flows of thought and feeling. When you imagine your life, every step is steadied by this inner vigilance; no fear of slipping belongs to you when you dwell in the reality that the I AM surrounds you as a shield and a shade at your right hand. The 'neither slumber nor sleep' speaks to the constant, unwavering attention of awareness that attends to your needs in every moment—quiescent, constant, intimate. You are not waiting for protection; you are the very act of protection when you realize yourself as the one consciousness that keeps and animates all that you are perceiving. In this light, your future is secure because your present awareness is protective, awake, and personal.

Practice This Now

Assume now that you are kept by the I AM. Feel the inner shield around you and affirm, 'I AM keeps my footstep; I am protected by the I AM.'
