Biblical Context
Psalm 116:5-6 declares that the Lord is gracious and merciful, and that the simple are preserved; the Psalmist testifies that help came when he was brought low.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider the LORD as the I AM within your own consciousness. The text names graciousness and mercy as the natural mood of awareness; the 'simple' are your unguarded, trusting states of mind that remain preserved when you rest in awareness. 'I was brought low' points to a humbling shift of identity—from the separate ego to the I AM—and in that surrender, help arises as a revision in feeling. When you identify yourself with the I AM, providence and guidance become your constant condition, not a distant event. Grace is the sustained atmosphere of your inner life, and preservation is the fruit of yielding to your inner Father. Let humility be your doorway; let trust be your method. Your job is to assume that you are already under grace, protected and guided, and to feel that truth now as your present reality.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit quietly, whisper 'I AM preserved by God' and feel the truth in your chest as if held by an unseen hand; then revise a current strain to 'I am being helped now' and let relief rise as a felt reality.
