Biblical Context

The verse speaks of God dwelling in a holy temple and ruling from heaven, watching and testing the human heart and mind.

Neville's Inner Vision

Psalm 11:4 proclaims that the Lord is in His holy temple and that His throne stands in heaven, watching and testing the sons of men. Yet this temple and throne are not external places; they are the state of consciousness in which you live. The 'eyes behold' is your inner perception—your attention that sees every thought, belief, or impulse. The 'eyelids try' are the disciplines of your inner judge, the discriminating faculty of your I AM, which reveals truth by separating what you accept from what you resist. The 'children of men' are your own thoughts and feelings, all arising within the single consciousness. When you grasp this, you realize you are not petitioning a distant deity but awakening to the fact that you are the living temple of God, the throne of heaven within your being. You can revise any fear or lack by assuming the posture of omniscient watcher, declaring: I am the presence that beholds and the power that tests and purifies.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, breathe, and imagine you are seated on a luminous throne at the center of your mind; say softly, I AM the observer of all thoughts. Feel the truth, and revise fear or lack by dwelling in that higher state.
