Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Psalm 108:9-10 portrays victory over imagined foes as inner mastery, where nations correspond to inner states that must be redeemed. The question about entering the strong city signals the inner assurance of a fortified consciousness.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within the sounding words of Psalm 108:9-10, I discover that the outer nations are but pictures of inner states. Moab, Edom, and Philistia symbolize the stubborn habits, fears, and distractions I have believed are outside me. When the Psalmist says, 'Moab is my washpot,' I hear that my old judgments are being rinsed away in the basin of consciousness; 'over Edom will I cast out my shoe' means I cast off the coarse, protective ego that would trample truth, and 'over Philistia will I triumph' declares that I am not fighting enemies in time and space, but conquering the separation within. The question, 'Who will bring me into the strong city?' becomes, Who will lead me into the strong city of awareness where I am secure in the I AM? The answer is not another ruler but Imagination—the inner power that creates the very conditions of victory by my present sense of being. I am urged to assume the state of triumph here and now, imagining the walls of limitation dissolving as I stand within the fortress of my own consciousness.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and repeat: I am the I AM; I now enter the strong city of inner awareness. Feel the walls dissolve as triumph and protection embrace me.
