Biblical Context

They wandered in the wilderness, unsure where to settle. When they cried to the LORD, relief came.

Neville's Inner Vision

Picture the wilderness not as geography but as the mind in exile from its true I AM. The solitary way and the absence of a city are inner dispositions—habits of thought that feel without anchor. Hunger and thirst are not physical needs but longing for the wholeness that already resides as your awareness. When they cry unto the LORD, they are simply turning attention to the I AM within, the living God that you are. Deliverance is the recognition that the remedy was present all along; you are not saved from without, you realize you are within. The distress dissolves as belief aligns with this truth; the inner city you sought in the outside world is already inside you as your own consciousness. The Psalm invites you to revise the scene in your mind: imagine you are dwelling in that inner city now, and hence the world adjusts to your new inner state. Remember, God is I AM awareness, and you are not separate from it but one with it.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and say, in the present tense, 'I am the I AM, dwelling now in the inner city' and revise the scene so wanderings and lack dissolve as you settle into that truth.
