Humility's Hidden Power

Psalms 10:10 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 10 in context

Scripture Focus

10He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.
Psalms 10:10

Biblical Context

It speaks of a powerful figure who crouches in a feigned humility to bring the poor down by using his strength. The scene shows how pride and domination shape the fate of the vulnerable.

Neville's Inner Vision

Viewed through the I AM, the man in Psalms 10:10 is not a distant tyrant but a state of mind I entertain. Crouching, humility performed as a ploy, is the ego's way of gathering power over fear and lack; the 'poor' are the vulnerable parts of me which I pretend to protect by humiliating them, letting the belief in 'strong ones'—my aggressive thoughts, possessions, social postures—do the work. When I recognize that this drama arises from within, I can reverse the scene by assuming a different state: I am the I AM, the awareness that feels itself complete, abundant, just. With this new assumption, the 'weak' parts are cherished, not used; the 'strong ones' bow to inner justice and cooperate with harmony. The verse then becomes a reminder: I am the cause of what follows; to change the outward picture, revise my inner posture and dwell in the consciousness that elevates all parts of me.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and, in the I AM, revise the scene: you are the conscious power that does not oppress but uplifts; feel the 'poor' within as cherished, and let the 'strong ones' become instruments of justice.
