Entering the Depths of Folly

Proverbs 9:18 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Proverbs 9 in context

Scripture Focus

18But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.
Proverbs 9:18

Biblical Context

Folly is shown as a banquet that keeps the mind in a deadened state, with its guests dwelling in the inner depths of distress. The message is that such company blinds one to the I AM present within.

Neville's Inner Vision

Consider the man who 'knows not' that the dead are there, for in Neville's tongue the 'dead' are fixed state of consciousness; the guests are habitual thoughts and appetites that keep you separated from the I AM. Each guest is an image you have accepted as real. The ‘depths of hell’ are not a place but a psychology: the feeling of being driven by fear, desire, lack, and struggle. You are the one who imagines your life into existence; therefore you can reverse the image by assuming a different state. When you seat yourself as the I AM, you bring warmth and light to the room, and the guests rearrange into virtues: peace, courage, gratitude. The remedy is simple: assume you already are the consciousness that creates harmony; revise the scene, feel it real, and let the old narratives collapse. The dead are not others; they are the states you have accepted. Your resurrection is an inner election: to awaken to a NOW where your inner guests reflect life, love, and jubilation rather than fear and decay.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Assume the feeling of the I AM here and now; revise the inner scene by inviting new guests—awareness, peace, and renewal—and feel it real.
