Inner Guard Against Temptation

Proverbs 7:5 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Proverbs 7 in context

Scripture Focus

5That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.
Proverbs 7:5

Biblical Context

Proverbs 7:5 speaks of keeping you safe from the flattering stranger. It presents temptation as a covert distraction that would draw you from your true center.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within the verse the strange woman is not a person but a movement of sense-appearance persuading you to yield to appetite for change of state. You are not threatened by others; you are consciousness creating the scene. When you feel a flattery, you are invited to revise the impression: I AM the I AM, unmoved by passing appearances. The mind, when it rests in its own unity, recognizes that approval, flattery, or seductive promise are thoughts arising within, not commands from the absolute. The act of yielding occurs only if you forget who you are. Therefore, stand firmly in the awareness that your imagination is sovereign, and the stranger's words cannot alter your inner identity. As you dwell in the feeling of your I AM, you disidentify from the flattering move; you observe it and let it pass without reaction. The result is safety and wholeness; you remain integrated in your intent and align with divine order, knowing nothing real can touch you except what you allow by belief.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Sit quietly and declare I AM; picture the flattering words dissolving into light and returning to the source of consciousness. Revise the scene by affirming an unmoved inner reality and your guard of awareness.
