Inner Snare of Desire

Proverbs 7:21-23 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Proverbs 7 in context

Scripture Focus

21With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
22He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
23Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.
Proverbs 7:21-23

Biblical Context

The verses warn that seductive speech can coax a person away from discernment, leading toward danger and ruin as if drawn to a trap.

Neville's Inner Vision

I see the scene as a drama of consciousness, not a moral tale about others. The fair speech is simply a vibration of the mind, a flattering suggestion that entices you to yield. You are not the man in the street, but the I AM, capable of choosing what to dwell upon. When that vibration grips you, you follow it straightway, like an ox to the slaughter, because you have forgotten that you are the determiner of your outer states. The pain of the dart and the snare is the measure of your drift away from your true self. To reclaim your life, turn your attention inward and insist, I am the possessor of this moment. Imagination fashions your reality; if you revise this scene, you revise the condition. See the alluring voice as a passing thought, not a fact; replace it with the feeling of safety, clarity, and the awareness that I AM that which remains constant while appearances arise.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the I AM; revise the scene by letting the flattering voice fade and feeling yourself already aligned with integrity, walking away from the trap.
