Scripture Focus

10And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.
11(She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:
12Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)
13So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,
14I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.
15Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
16I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.
17I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.
19For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:
20He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.
Proverbs 7:10-20

Biblical Context

The verses describe a seductive woman enticing a man, using outward luxury to lure him away. It frames temptations as inner pressures that uncover a state of consciousness.

Neville's Inner Vision

These lines are not about a person; they are a portrait of a mind tempted to forget the home of awareness. The woman, in the attire of a harlot yet loud and cunning, is the seductive belief that pleasure can be secured from without. She is a mode of consciousness that prowls the corners of your mind—ever ready to promise peace and to repeat vows you keep as proofs of safety. The bed decked with tapestry and myrrh is the glitter of imagined satisfactions; the goodman gone on a journey is the sense that inner order is temporarily absent. The bag of money is your attention and time spent chasing shadows instead of resting in the I AM. But you are not at the mercy of such appearances. See that the scene is a script your imagination is playing, and you, with the I AM, hold the power to revise it. When temptation rises, assume the state I AM here and now. Replace the seductress with stillness, integrity, and the assurance that the day appointed is this moment. By realizing you are the one who commands the stage, you dissolve the lure of illusion.

Practice This Now

In the moment of temptation, assume the I AM now; revise the scene so the inner guard is present and the room glows with stillness. Feel the truth of this state until the seductress dissolves.
