Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse asks you to keep wisdom's words and commands and to treat wisdom and understanding as close companions. It promises life by aligning your heart and actions with divine law, guarding you from flattery and temptation.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider Proverbs 7:1-5 as an instruction to domesticate your consciousness. The 'son' is your awareness; the 'words' and 'commandments' are the steady conditions you adopt in mind. When you bind them on your fingers and write them on your heart, you are rehearsing a state of attention in which the I AM governs perception, not the ever-shifting appearances. Say to wisdom, 'You are my sister,' and mean it as an alliance, a reliable inner counsel. Let understanding be your kinwoman, always present to remind you of what you already know in the depth of your being. This is how you stay from the strange woman—the flattery and quick sensations that lure you from your inner law. In this internal arrangement, temptation loses its power because your mental space is occupied by the commandments you have chosen as reality. When you imagine yourself living by these laws, you awaken the truth that you are already free, and your world follows the inevitable expression of that inner stance.
Practice This Now
Assume that you already embody these commandments; feel the reality of living by them as you breathe. Close your eyes, repeat, 'I keep my words; I live by the inner commandments,' and let wisdom and understanding become your closest companions guiding your next choice.
