Guarding the Inner Wisdom
Proverbs 7:1-27 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Proverbs 7 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The passage urges you to keep Wisdom close and live by its commandments, binding discipline to every part of you. It warns that following temptations leads to ruin, while obedience to inner law preserves life.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within you, the proverb is not a history but a map of consciousness. The 'young man void of understanding' is the moment when you wander through the streets of idle thoughts, ungrounded in a clear I AM presence. The 'strange woman' with flattering speech stands for any impulse promising fullness without the discipline of alignment. To hear the call of wisdom is to offer it your sistership—call wisdom 'my sister' and understanding 'my kin'—so that every thought rises under the light of inner law. When you bind the commandments to your fingers and write them on your heart, you claim a state of awareness that cannot be lured away by appearances. The path described—twilight, evening, dark—symbolizes the moment you forget who you are and wander toward the snare. Yet the I AM remains, and by practicing the revision of impressions and the feeling of living in harmony with wisdom, you return to life, out of fear and toward a lucid, fearless vitality. The house of death becomes simply a state of consciousness you no longer inhabit.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and imagine Wisdom as a steadfast sister guiding your steps. When a tempting thought rises, revise it by affirming your inner commandments and feel the I AM steadying you toward life.
