Proverbs 5:8

Biblical Context

Proverbs 5:8 urges you to keep far from temptation and not approach the doorway of seduction. It calls for purity, discernment, and steadfast boundaries.

Neville's Inner Vision

Picture 'her' as the wave of temptation that rises within your own consciousness, not as an external person. Remove thy way far from her and come not nigh the door of her house, in Neville's sense, says: refuse to participate in the drama by which you are bent to react. You are the I AM, the awareness that remains untouched by the image. When you feel the impulse, do not argue with it; instead assume a new state of mind. Assume that your boundaries are already drawn, that your attention is a field you command. Begin to revise: 'I withdraw my attention from the thought of her door; I am the boundary, I am the light, I am the I AM.' Feel it as a real present condition, not a future goal. Imagination creates reality; by dwelling in that boundary you disempower the temptation and empower wisdom, purity, and discernment. Your whole life moves toward the state you inhabit in consciousness, and this momentary decision to constrict the doorway becomes the crystallizing act of integrity.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and declare the boundary; imagine stepping back into a bright inner light, then revise: 'I withdraw my attention from the thought of temptation; I am the boundary.'
