Inner Watch: Temptation and Presence

Proverbs 5:20-21 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Proverbs 5 in context

Scripture Focus

20And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
Proverbs 5:20-21

Biblical Context

The verse warns against surrendering to seductive distraction and reminds us that God sees every choice; true purity arises from aligning with the inner divine presence.

Neville's Inner Vision

The 'strange woman' is not a person but a vivid image of a transitory desire. When you feel drawn away, you are not being pursued by an external force but by a mis-tuned inner state. The line 'the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD' speaks to your own consciousness—the I AM within—that observes every motive and movement. God is not distant judgment but the constant awareness that witnesses your life. To rise above the lure, assume you are already in a state of complete integrity and harmony with this inner presence. In that state, the impulse loses its grip, for it no longer matches the reality you accept as true. Your goings are pondered by your own subconscious until you consciously revise them by intent. Remember: you dream your life into being with God; shift the dream by resting in the I AM, and the appearance of temptation yields to wisdom and steadiness.

Practice This Now

Practice: When a craving arises, close your eyes and rest in the I AM. Then revise the impulse with 'I am the I AM; my ways are seen by God' and feel the craving fade into quiet certainty.
