Proverbs 4:1-9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Proverbs 4 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The passage invites attentive listening to wise inner instruction, urging you to keep the inner commandments, seek wisdom, and honor the inner crown that wisdom grants.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within you, the speaker in Proverbs 4 is the inner father—your I AM, the steadfast law by which you live. 'Hear, ye children' invites your younger self to listen not to fear, but to the quiet, unwavering voice of understanding. 'Good doctrine' and 'my law' become the inner order you align with, so that to 'keep my commandments' is to hold steady in a preferred state of consciousness. To 'get wisdom' is to assume that you already ARE the wise state, and to persist in that assumption until every thought, feeling, and circumstance reflects it. 'Forsake her not' and 'love her' are invitations to dwell in the discipline that preserves and guides you. When you exalt wisdom, you elevate the very atmosphere of your mind; she 'promotes thee' by drawing people and events into harmony with your inner alignment. The crown of grace, a crown of glory, is the external expression of an inward, felt reality. Place yourself in that reality now, and watch as life conforms to the elevated order you have assumed.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: close your eyes and, for a few breaths, assume the feeling of 'I am wisdom' and let the inner law govern you; then picture a crown gently resting upon your head as proof of the inner order.
