Inner Discipline, Inner Wisdom

Proverbs 29:15 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Proverbs 29 in context

Scripture Focus

15The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
Proverbs 29:15

Biblical Context

Discipline and correction produce wisdom; when guidance is neglected, the mind (the 'child') acts out and the inner life bears 'shame'.

Neville's Inner Vision

All verses of scripture are states of consciousness in action. The rod and reproof are not sticks and rebukes in the external world, but interior images by which you discipline your own thoughts. The 'child' is the impulsive part of your mind, the tendency to wander from my inner truth; the 'mother' is the inner life that bears the fruit of your inner movements. When you permit the child to roam without direction, the inner life is brought to 'shame'—not by judgment from others, but by the collapse of harmony in your own awareness. The wise man or woman simply refuses to identify with the child's impulse; they re-imagine the scene, insisting that the Self is the ruler of thoughts and feelings. The rod and reproof become gentle, decisive affirmations that reinstate order in consciousness. In this light, discipline is not a denial of joy but a clear act of attention, alignment, and imagining a wiser state as already real. You are the Broadcasting I AM; imagination creates your experience.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and call forth an inner tutor—a calm voice of correction. See the 'child' within listen, and declare, 'I am disciplined; I choose wisdom over impulse,' letting this new stance be felt as real.
