Proverbs 28:7-12 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Proverbs 28 in context

Scripture Focus

7Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.
8He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.
9He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.
10Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.
11The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.
12When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.
Proverbs 28:7-12

Biblical Context

These verses contrast obedience to the law with the ruin caused by riotous company. Wealth earned through injustice decays, while the righteous prosper and hidden pride is exposed.

Neville's Inner Vision

Imagine the law not as external rule but as your inner state of awareness. In truth, the 'wise son' is the state in which you are aligned with the I AM, the living sense of right order; the riotous companions are restless thoughts that pull you from that center. When you yield to usury or ill-gotten gain, you are not gaining anything outside; you are gathering a pit of contradiction within your own mind, and the poor you pity in imagination is your own neglected quality seeking expression. To turn away your ear from the law is to turn from the guidance of your own higher self, and prayer loses its charge because it becomes merely habit instead of communion. The man who causes the righteous to go astray is the one who breaks inner harmony; eventually, that discord boomerangs into his own experience, while the upright inherit a natural wealth of clarity. The rich’s conceit hides the truth from him, but the discerning poor exposes it. When alignment returns, life glories in you and nothing can obscure your light.

Practice This Now

Assume you are the wise son who keeps the law. Revise any urge for unjust gain by blessing the poor in imagination, and feel that inner order as your tangible experience today.
