Biblical Context
A wicked ruler oppresses the poor, fueled by a lack of understanding. Those who hate covetousness prolong their days; violence against life leads to destruction.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within the inner theatre, the wicked ruler is a state of consciousness that dominates the vulnerable parts of yourself—the poor—them representing tenderness, imagination, and potential. Proclaiming oneself king over fear, greed, and harsh judgment creates a 'lion' and a 'bear' within you that devour harmony and justice. When you awaken to understanding, you disarm that tyrant; the ruler who hates covetousness steps aside, and life extends as your awareness broadens. The violent impulse to harm another's life is not external but an inner pattern seeking release; to disidentify from it is to choose safety for the whole organism, to invite the pit to retire from consciousness rather than becoming its echo. The law at work is simple: you reap what you identify with. If you cling to domination and violence, you invite collapse; if you cultivate discernment, mercy, and fair dealing in your thoughts, you set in motion a gentler, enduring life-energy. Remember, 'the I AM' within you is the rightful ruler; align with it, and your outward conditions follow.
Practice This Now
Practice: Close your eyes and assume the role of the wise, just ruler of your inner life. Revise by affirming, 'I govern my life with understanding and love; I hate covetousness,' and feel that new inner authority enlarging and sustaining my days.
