Scripture Focus

7The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
Proverbs 27:7

Biblical Context

One guards against abundance: a full soul despises the sweetness of honey. A hungry soul, however, finds even bitter things sweet because they serve growth.

Neville's Inner Vision

Proverbs 27:7 speaks the truth of states of consciousness: when the mind is full, sweetness loses its savor and even the honey becomes sour to the altar of self-satisfaction. Yet when the soul is hungry for God, every bitter circumstance is a nourishment for the inner man. The honey is only desirable in a mind that fears lack; the bitter is transformed by the imagination that does not fear. The I AM within stands not outside events but as the field in which they are felt. Whatever you call sweetness or bitterness is but your subjective impression; by assuming a new state—one of unshakable presence of God—you invite the world to conform. The hungry state asks not, 'What is this?' but declares, 'This experience serves my ascent; I am fed by every trial with divine wisdom.' In practice, you revise your interpretation until the bitterness becomes a measure of your growth and your heart remains grateful.

Practice This Now

Assume the hungry soul now; revise a bitter moment as growth and feel it real.
