The Honest Witness Within
Proverbs 24:28-29 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Proverbs 24 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
It warns against bearing false witness and deceit. It also cautions against retaliating in kind, inviting trust in a higher standard of justice that governs the inward world.
Neville's Inner Vision
Imagine the neighbor not as a separate person but as a garment of your own consciousness pressed upon you by your current state. Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause means you must not affirm a false image of anyone through speech, for you are the I AM that perceives. Deceive not with thy lips implies that talk which contradicts your inner truth breaks the unity of your inner world. Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work invites you to leave judgment in the hands of your higher self, the eternal you that does not retaliate. When you believe you are the thinker of your world, you can revise any unsettling scene by assuming a different state of consciousness: a calm, unthreatened witness who forgives and grants sweetness to the perceived neighbor. In that inner posture, the "crime" has no power to alter your state, and the outer scene begins to loosen its grip. Your true action is to awaken to the I AM within and speak from that source, aligning every word with truth and compassion rather than grievance.
Practice This Now
Assume the feeling of the I AM, the constant witness of your life, and revise any urge to retaliate; in a quiet moment, speak truth from that inner vantage and forgive.
