Read Proverbs 24 in context

Scripture Focus

19Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked;
20For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
Proverbs 24:19-20

Biblical Context

Do not fret over evil men or envy the wicked; their end is not a lasting reward and the candle of the wicked will be extinguished.

Neville's Inner Vision

Proverbs 24:19-20 shows you that your attention is the wick and the flame of life. When you fret at evil men or envy their seeming success, you are feeding a transient candle with your awareness. The verse invites you to withdraw your support from such scenes and to realize that no external 'reward' truly touches the I AM that you are. In Neville's terms, the wicked are only a sign of an old thought and its craving for outer proof. The night of worry reveals a belief in separation from your own richness; but your true self—the I AM—never winks out. To interpret the text, you accept that the inner state constitutes the outer day. When you imagine from the standpoint of fullness—seeing yourself as already complete and abundantly guided—you do not intensify or imitate the others' misfortune; you calm your own mind and let the candle go out. The law responds to your consciousness, not to the appearances; you are the governor of the candle by your assumption, and peace follows.

Practice This Now

Sit quietly and revise your state by affirming 'I am already complete.' Feel the steadiness of that truth until fret and envy dissolve.
