Inner Wealth Over Pleasures

Proverbs 21:17-18 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Proverbs 21 in context

Scripture Focus

17He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
18The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.
Proverbs 21:17-18

Biblical Context

The verse warns that loving pleasure leads to poverty, and that seeking luxury does not bring lasting riches; the upright are linked with provision, while the pleasure-seeker experiences scarcity.

Neville's Inner Vision

Do you see, beloved, that the verse speaks not to a moral crime outside you but to a state you entertain within? The man who loves pleasure is identifying with lack, a consciousness that measures wealth by wine and oil and finds it fleeting. When you insist upon sensory gratification as your sovereign, you decree scarcity into your world; your outer provision becomes a ransom exchanged for your inner fear. But the line about the wicked and the upright reveals the law at work: the world rearranges itself to reflect the ruler you have seated in the I AM—the awareness that you are. To reverse the current, you do not argue with appearances; you assume the end—the feeling of abundance—as your natural condition. In that assumed state, the so-called wicked cannot hold you; the heart of the righteous is held by your stable consciousness, and what you call fortune aligns with your inner state. So, dwell in the truth that you are the I AM, and let the appetite for pleasure yield to the steady joy of sufficiency.

Practice This Now

Assume the feeling of abundance now: I AM wealth and all my needs are met. Let this revision sit in your chest until it feels real, then carry that state into daily life until outer provision mirrors it.
