Biblical Context

A lazy man hides his hand in his bosom and will not feed himself, even when nourishment is within reach.

Neville's Inner Vision

To the inner listener, Proverbs 19:24 speaks of a state of consciousness far more than a rule about conduct. The 'slothful man' is not merely idle in action; he hides his hand in his bosom to starve the life that is already his. The hand is your power to act in the world; bringing it to the mouth is accepting nourishment from the I AM—the awareness you are. Imagination is the living law; you are what you continually assume yourself to be. If you dwell in the belief that nourishment is scarce, your inner hunger remains unsatisfied and external signs will confirm it. Yet a single shift of state can awaken you: assume you are already fed by the infinite within. Then sensation and impulse flow, and you act not from fear but from a felt sense of abundance. The lazy self dies by your insistence on the truth that you are fed by God within, and your life follows the assumption you endure.

Practice This Now

Imaginative_act: Assume the state 'I am nourished by the I AM within'; today, when you sense a small impulse to act, bring it to your mouth by taking that step and affirm aloud, 'I am fed by God within'.
