Biblical Context
Proverbs 15:25-33 contrasts pride with humility and integrity. It shows divine favor follows the humble and the righteous, while pride and greed disrupt inner peace.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within me, the proud self builds a structure of separate self-importance; the moment I acknowledge I AM, the LORD 'destroys the house' of that pride and sets a new boundary around the widow—the true, vulnerable I AM that the inner life cherishes. The wicked thoughts are abominations to the LORD because they distort the pure image I am in the act of becoming. When I align my speech with purity, I find my thoughts become pleasant to my own ears; greed imprisons the house of my being, while detesting counterfeit gifts invites life through grace. The heart of the righteous studies to answer, i.e., my inner mind contemplates with care; the mouth of the wicked releases noise, while the righteous voice speaks measured, constructive words. The LORD is far from wicked, yet hears the prayer of the righteous when the prayer is born of humility and trust. Light in the eyes is inner clarity; a good report nourishes my bones. The ear that hears reproof abides among the wise; to hear correction is to ascend. The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; before honor is humility.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Assume the state of humility now; revise prideful thought by affirming, 'I AM the pure presence within,' and feel the old structure dissolve as the inner border of the widow is established by your I AM.
