Biblical Context
Wise inner discernment brings joy to the inner authority; folly, born of ignorance, delights only those without wisdom. The truly understanding man walks upright in life.
Neville's Inner Vision
Verse 20 presents the wise son as a state of consciousness that gladdens the inner Father, the I AM principle within you. Verse 21 warns that folly is the seeming joy of one who lacks wisdom, while the man of understanding walks uprightly by alignment with truth. In Neville’s psychology, the son is a habit of mind you assume; the Father is the living principle of authority and reality inside you, and the Mother is the nourishing guidance your imagination provides. When you dwell in a state of wisdom—clear perception, disciplined choice, and compassionate intent—you invoke the Father’s smile and your world reflects harmony, trust, and upright action. When you cling to lack or confusion, you mistake a hollow joy for wisdom, and your steps become scattered. The remedy is simple: assume the desired state until it feels natural, revise every fleeting thought that contradicts it, and, by feeling it real, walk in uprightness. Your life then becomes the outward sign of an inward alignment, the outer world responding to your inner authority.
Practice This Now
Assume you are the wise inner son; revise any self-doubt to see yourself walking upright in every circumstance, and feel the inner Father smile as you move through the day.
