Contentment In Every State

Biblical Context
Paul says he learned to be content in any state, whether in need or in abundance. True contentment springs from within, not from outward conditions.
Neville's Inner Vision
To Paul, contentment is not the fruit of favorable conditions but the posture of the I AM within. Neville would say: the 'I know how to be abased and abound' is a declaration of mastery over appearances by the law of consciousness. When you accept that your awareness is the sole source of all states, hunger or plenty reveal themselves as signs, not problems. The outer world responds as a faithful mirror to your inner attitude; shift the inner image and the outer scene rearranges itself to match. If you desire abundance, you do not fight lack in the street of events; you revise the inner picture until it rings with sufficiency. You are that which you seek, because you are the imagining I AM, the steady flame that never leaves its center. The discipline is simple: dwell in the sense of fulfillment here and now, not in the want of it; imagine from the end, not toward the end. In this way, you live in contentment in every state, and Providence follows your inner conviction with ever-present grace.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and imagine the state of fullness and peace as already yours, repeating, I am content in every state. Hold that feeling until it feels real, then move with the outer world from that inner certainty.
