Biblical Context
Paul explains that his former gains are now counted as loss for the sake of Christ. He values the knowledge of Christ far above all worldly attainments.
Neville's Inner Vision
To the inner listener, Paul’s words become a manual for shifting the state of consciousness. What he once called gain is now seen as the ego’s measurement of separation; the true prize is the excellency of the knowledge of Christ, the awareness that Christ is the I AM here and now. This Christ is not an external person but the living consciousness within which you know, feel, and choose. To win Christ is to enthrone this inner knowing above outward results, not by renouncing life but by reordering your inner scale so that you trust the presence of Christ within as the sole basis of reality. When you persist in this shift, attachments loosen; faith becomes trust in the inner shift rather than pursuit of external signs. Endurance grows as you align with the inner state that already possesses you. In that conscious redemption, outward circumstances begin to reflect this transformed sense of being, as the mind’s recognition takes precedence over the world’s judgments.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: For 5 minutes, declare, 'I now count all things as loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ within me,' and feel the Christ-state expanding in your chest, guiding outer events to resonate with that inner knowing.
