Philippians 2:1-4 Inner Unity

Philippians 2:1-4 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Philippians 2 in context

Scripture Focus

1If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
2Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
3Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
Philippians 2:1-4

Biblical Context

Paul invites believers to be of one mind and one heart, united in love and harmony. He then presses humility, urging each to esteem others better than themselves and to look out for the interests of others.

Neville's Inner Vision

In Neville's language, there is no external unity to seek, only the inner state. If you sense consolation, comfort, or fellowship, you have already created them as conditions of your own consciousness. The 'Christ' spoken of is the I AM you, the living awareness that can choose a level of attention. When you choose to be likeminded, having the same love, you are aligning your inner sense of self with a harmonious vibration. The verse forbids strife and vainglory because such movements are merely thoughts of separation inside you; they dissolve when humility takes the stage. To esteem another better than yourself is to imagine yourself as containing their good within your own mind, and to keep your gaze on the things of others rather than your own scenes. Look not every man on his own things; look also on the things of others, because every belief you hold about them is a belief about you. Your external world shifts as you inhabit this inner state.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Close your eyes and imagine you and another are 'one' in the I AM; feel their happiness as your own. Then, in the next greeting or choice, act from that sense of unity.
