Biblical Context
Philemon 1:10–11 presents a plea: Onesimus, once unprofitable to Philemon, has become profitable to both Philemon and Paul. The change is inner as well as outer—a transformation of relation born in the mind.
Neville's Inner Vision
In the depths of your consciousness, Philemon is the ruler of your inner house and Onesimus is a seed of grace born in the bonds of your present limitation. The past view of Onesimus as unprofitable dissolves as you recognize him now as profitable to you and to the whole. This is not a change of circumstance alone but a shift of state: the intercessor Paul is your higher self, the witness who consents to and names the new harmony. By imagining Onesimus as already profitable, you align your will, memory, and feeling, allowing the bond to transform from constraint to usefulness. The act of grace emerges from within, not from others; your awareness seals the reconciliation, and the outward scene follows the inward revelation. Rest in the sense that the inner relationship is complete, and your entire mind harmonizes with this truth of wholeness.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and revise the narrative: declare that Onesimus is now profitable to you and to Paul within your mind. Feel gratitude as if the inner reconciliation is already done, and permit the inner advocate to affirm this new harmony.
