Biblical Context
Moses commands the leaders to allocate land based on Gad and Reuben's commitment to cross the Jordan with the army; they agree to move so their inheritance on this side of the Jordan will be secured.
Neville's Inner Vision
To whom is this sequence addressed? It is to the I AM within you, who hears your vow and marks your territory. The two tribes, Gad and Reuben, request a parcel on this side Jordan if they go forth with the others; this is your inner decision to carry a particular state of consciousness into the next chapter. When Moses says, If you pass over with the army before the LORD then land shall be subdued before you, the invitation is not to a geographic conquest but to a condition of mind conquered by imagination. The land of Gilead represents a possession belonging to a determined state of awareness, while staying among your present Canaan would mean remaining in the old story. Their answer, 'As the LORD hath said... so will we do,' is the discipline of loyalty to your word to your I AM. You choose endurance, you choose obedience, you pass over armed with faith, and you take the land because your inner covenant is ratified through imagination.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Close your eyes and imagine standing with your inner leaders at the river, declare 'I cross now' and feel the new land as already mine.
