In Numbers 31:1-2 the LORD speaking to Moses is the I AM awakening within you, prompting an inner clearing. To 'avenge' here means to restore right order inside your consciousness by removing the inner adversaries—doubt, fear, and attachments—that have kept your true state from appearing. This is not physical warfare but a reclamation of the birthright of consciousness: the awareness that the higher Self has already overcome these obstructions. The phrase 'afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people' signals that once you clear the inner resistance, you are drawn into alignment with your eternal nature, your divine community within. The events reflect Providence and Guidance: the outer image mirrors the inner decision to stand as the I AM and to permit the old self to dissolve. You become both judge and reconciler of your inner world, and by that choice you arrive at the place where God—the I AM within you—gathers you into harmony with your true self.
