When you maintain that zeal, you perform an inner atonement—the lifting and cleansing of beliefs that separate you from God and from others. The children of Israel symbolize your entire mind and its people; by cleansing the mind you restore harmony among its parts. Thus the verse points to a timeless vocation: you are the priest who enters the holy of holies of your own awareness, making peace within so the world you inhabit reflects that peace.
