Biblical Context
The verse declares that he and his seed shall hold the covenant of an everlasting priesthood. This comes because he was zealous for his God and made an atonement for the children of Israel.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within the inner man, 'he' represents a state of consciousness that chooses to officiate in the temple of awareness. The 'seed after him' speaks of continuities of that state, a lineage of discipline and devotion that persists as long as you nourish it in imagination. The 'covenant of an everlasting priesthood' is not a ritual imposed from without, but a perpetual function of consciousness—the ability to listen, consecrate, and heal within the mind. 'Because he was zealous for his God' signals the inner energy of devotion awakened in you; zeal is not heat but unwavering attention to the divine I AM. When you maintain that zeal, you perform an inner atonement—the lifting and cleansing of beliefs that separate you from God and from others. The children of Israel symbolize your entire mind and its people; by cleansing the mind you restore harmony among its parts. Thus the verse points to a timeless vocation: you are the priest who enters the holy of holies of your own awareness, making peace within so the world you inhabit reflects that peace.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes, assume the role of the inner priest, and feel the I AM dwelling within. Say, 'I am the covenant priesthood; I am at-one with all within my mind,' and let the sense of cleansing and healing move through your thoughts.
